SX Staleys Gemini

SX Staleys Gemini 1973-2006

This morning SX Staleys Gemini (*Serafix x Neecheza), a truly grand gentleman, was put humanly to sleep after a short illness weakened him to the point where he could no longer support himself on his feet. He went down and, although we were able to get him up numerous times during the past week, at last none of our efforts worked. With a heavy heart, I made the decision to call the vet. I held his head in my arms while he left us - creating such a tremendous void in our lives. He was such a grand guy and Iwill miss him every day. Gem was 33 years old and, perhaps, the last living*Serafix son. He is truly the end of an era.

Gem leaves us his beautiful daughter, SX Geminis Glory (aka Gracie), conceived when he was 30, and his "little princess" grand daughter, SX Whisper (Serazim x SX Alaura by Gemini), born in 2005. Marci de la Torre, Pegasus Park Arabians, Temecula, California

PR Silver Dream ( *Silver Vanity x Landi)
( 7/29/80- 9/21/04)

It is with great sadness that the Boone family inform people of the passing of PR Silver Dream. She was 24 years old. Dream suffered a mild stroke, fell and broke her leg. She was humanely put down and was buried in a place of honor on our farm. Dream, as she was affectionately called, was the mare of a lifetime. She was the youngest daughter of the immortal *Silver Vanity. *Silver Vanity was 2 time supreme champion in England prior to his importation by Bazy Tankersley and Charles Prange. Silver Vanity's influence was worldwide. Dream was bred by Susan Stockwell and owned and cherished at different times of her life by Stephanie White, Susan Felker, and the last 5 years of her life by Merrie Boone and her family.

PR Silver Dream Dream produced a total of 8 foals. Nothing made Dream happier than when she had a foal on her side. She was such a good mother to her foals and was so very proud of them. Her production record was remarkable as she had a total of 6 colts, 5 of which are breeding stallions. Her orphaned youngest colt, SDA Silver Bayonet, is 12 weeks old, as of this writing, and he too was purchased as a stallion prospect by well known breeder Melanie Johnson of Payback Ranch. Dream is the dam of SDA Silver Legend, 2004 Scottsdale Reserve Champion Sporthorse stallion. He is owned by Bazy Tankersley of Al-Marah Arabians. Her daughter PR Anastasia is a multiple champion in Western and English Pleasure. Her colts, AXIOM, BR Gold Sovereign, BR Silver Majesty, and SDA Silver Sultan have gone straight to the breeding shed. Our family is so very blessed to have Dream's look alike daughter BR Silveressence to continue in our breeding program.

Dream was 99.57 % Crabbet. She reminded me with her gentle kind nature why my family and I love the Crabbet Arabian. Her legacy continues through her children and grandchildren. Our family is dedicated to preserving the nearly pure and pure Crabbet Arabian such that these bloodlines are not lost forever. This too is Dream's legacy.

I just thank God the all mighty, for letting us be able to enjoy Dream these last years of her life. I know her spirit lives on at our farm. We miss her greatly, but I am comforted to know that somewhere above Dream is taking care of the foals in heaven.

-Merrie, Dan, Brianna and Kendra Boone

Pat Slater 2003

From an email dated March 28 received from Coralie Gordon. "The last week has seen the sad death, after a long battle with cancer, of Pat Slater, the Australian Arabian horse photographer who contributed so much to Arabian photography all over the world. She was invited to photograph at the Show in Qatar every year since its inception, also at the Jordanian Show. She was the editor of our "Arabian Horse News" for 9 years, and frequent contributor of stories to "Arabian Horse World". Her last story, on Simeon Stud, is in the November issue of the "World". One of her photographs is on the coming issue of our (Australian Crabbet) magazine. She has had many covers of many magazines. Her memorial service in Brisbane yesterday (Friday March 28) was packed with her friends from the Arabian and endurance community. Her first love was endurance and she photographed at all the major rides, including the World Championships at Jerez in September last, her last overseas trip.
Pat was a close personal friend of mine, a wonderful, talented, irreplaceable friend to many."

Sandarac Sanraven (aged 27) July 21, 2002

This is to inform you of the passing of Sandarac Sanraven (Sandarac Sanpiper x Shalimar Bestgida) #0127860; he was 27 yrs old.sandarac sanraven He suffered a stroke July 21, 2002; leaving him deaf and blind. We decided to have him put down and buried in our pasture. Sanraven was 52% *Raffles, Dr. William Munson bought Sanraven as a long yearling to be used as a stud on his ranch. Sanraven was leased and then sold to Rushcreek ranch: where he stood for 8 years; siring ranch and endurance horses. He was retired from the ranch at age 17, when we purchased him for our own use. His daughters became valuable part of the broodmare band for Rushcreek, producing the next generation of working ranch horses. Shalimar Rebel, Rushcreek Trump, Rushcreek Cougar, Rushcreek Claire are only a few of his get that went on to excel in the endurance world.
Sanraven had the look of Raffles. He was a complete gentleman at all times. Besides breeding mares, he was the babysitter for the newly weaned foals. He became a close friend in our family.  We are going to miss him. Judy Einspahr, Praire Park Arabians

Zumah Alowa 0047399 Jan. 28, 1968 - March 16, 2002

With great sadness, I must announce the sudden death of my 34-year-old mare, Zumah Alowa 0047399, born January 28, 1968, on March 16, 2002, of what seemed to be an internal hemorrhage.  She had otherwise been in amazingly good condition for her age.  She was an Abu Farwa granddaughter, out of Farlowa 008545 (Abu Farwa x Farlouma) and Wardashrez 0013207 (Zitez 0004977 x Wardashreh 006475). She was a great-grandaughter of the Polish stallion Witez II (Ofir x Federacja) and in her mother's line, Alla Amarward 0001140.   She was born in Malibu, California and was pretty much a "Kellogg horse."   Ten years ago, I found her in a rental stable and bought her, and I know little about her history. She is believed to have foaled; if anyone notes her name in a pedigree, I would like to know, as I hope her lineage has been perpetuated. She was a sweet, gentle, very loving mare and it is hard to imagine my life without her.

Aya Matigua 116610 Jan. 28, 2002

Aya MatiguaI wanted to let you know that Aya Matigua (Aurab x Abbi, pictured left) was put down Jan 28, 2002, 6 weeks shy of his 28th birthday. He had been in good health up to a month before his death when he started to fail. Treatment did not help and the decision to put him down was made. It truely was a sad day for us at Azria North. We feel lucky to have had him for almost 6 years. We feel fortunate to have a gelding, 2 fillies and a colt by him. The colt, SH Aur Tiger, born in 2001, was his last foal and looks to be a worthy heir. My website has photos of Aya Matigua taken lastsummer. Sue Styler Azria Arabians North at http://azrianorth.homestead.com/ We will miss him.

Davenport stallion Ibn Alamein Nov. 8, 2001

The members of ECAHS would like to offer condolences to Jeanne & Charles Craver for the recent loss of their 33 year old Davenport stallion, Ibn Alamein. We are sure that he will be greatly missed.
"We had to help Ibn Alamein over the divide about midnight the night before last. Some of you were just here, and know that he was failing. Of course, he has looked worse and worse over the last few months (and years!), but until Sunday evening we were always able to get him up when he went down, and he always was happy to have his feed. Sunday evening he went down and when we tried to get him up, his legs wouldn't hold him. After about six hours it was apparent that his strength was leaving, Charles helped him along. He changed the way Davenport horses look. And in his day, he was always the most magnificent horse on the farm." mowarda@aol.com (Charles Craver)

(Pictured left) A Gai Campaigner daughter out of Crescenta (a *Serafix daughter), She never looked her age until she suddenly lost weight from a large stomach tumor which grew rapidly and pressed against her heart. This photo was taken on her last day. She left us a beautiful and very sweet daughter, Laura Lapiz by Lauzeer, who will be a permanent member of our broodmare herd. Blazen Far 193893 - August 20, 2001

I normally just read messages and enjoy them but thought I should let folks know that the stallion Blazen Far 193893, was put down August 20, 2001 when he colicked. Blazen was not a well known stallion, he was shown in small Idaho and Oregon shows when Kathleen Jennings had him, and he was even ridden on a few endurance rides about ten years ago. He sired only a handful of purebreds and was mostly used for breeding 1/2 Arab pinto ponies. Blazen was by Kilauea Fire and out of Alysann by Regal Far, he was 22 years old. A real sweetheart, and I am glad that we were able to do the ultimate kindness for him , and didn't allow the old boy to suffer. I am very fortunate to have a 3 year old filly by him, she looks a lot like the old man. Karen Bumgarner Vale, OR. http://www.geocities.com/zmufaurwa

July 26, 2001. My Azraff granddaughter, FAIRAFFA (Comar Fairzraff by Azraff...out of Lea Raffa, an Azraff granddaughter), April 8, 1986 to July 25, 2001, was sent to greener pastures due to a severe leg injury while running (which she loved to do) in her pasture. Purchased by me in October, 1989, my beloved "Gremlin" was my first purebred Arabian and left me with her 9 yr. old daughter, C Bint Fairaffa (Faira) by an LH Garcia son and Faira's 8 yr. old full brother, El C Flamaan (Flash). Gremlin will always be loved and cherished by me for giving me the honor of knowing her. Her essence shall live on in my heart forever through her daughter, son and my precious memories!

RUFFSAURAF
April 25,1973 - July 15, 1999

RuffsaurafGrey Stallion - 14.3 hands. A *Raffles look alike.
"Ruff" was bred by Arabian Acres, Vivian Youngson, Carrollton, Ohio.
Sire: Ruffsaur, was by Gina Manion's stallion RUFFLES, Intl" Champion Stallion in Cuba 1952, out of a Sauwid daughter, a grandaughter of * RASEYN. Dam: Rafka was by RAFFAEL, of Cedardell Farms, a son of Handeyraff. Out of KOMIRA a *RITHAN daughter, of the C. A. West (Pittsburgh, PA) breeding program.

Ruff spent his early years with Peg Gotshall of East Liverpool, OH he was shown in locaL Shows and ridden by her children, he then went to Marina Smith of Beaver, Pa., who I am mentioning by name because she loved Ruff very much, and because she died of cancer in 1984 ?. I have corresponded with her husband since Ruff's death and he told me the horses had to be sold as he had no time to care for them when Marina was sick. I want to thank him for the photos of Ruff & Marina and etc.
Ruff then went thru 2 owners , a man from Ambridge , PA and Mickie Bekar, from E. Liverpool, Ohio before coming to me in Feb 1991. He had only Sired 4 Purebreds, and ? Partbreds when I got him. So I set out to change this, seeing as I thought his old blood needed to carry on.
Mostly he was a excellent trail horse, my best friend, with an excellent disposition he passed on to his foals. He was still siring foals at his death July 15,1999, of apparant heart failure. His last foal was born May 2000.
With the year of 2000 Ruffsauraf has sired 16 reg. Purebreds, 3 purebred foals who died before registration, 1 gelding who fell thru the cracks and was not registered, 8 or more partbreds while I owned him, with several partbreds before my ownership. Farewell Sweet Friend!!!!! You are allways on my mind!!!!

(*Count Dorsaz x AM Rose Anne by Indraff) foaled 1961, 93.75% Crabbet blood
Received this email notice from Barbara Moore of Fairfield Farm. "It is my sad duty to advise of the passing of Al Marah Countess Anne Tee. She provided us with 17 foals, 11 fillies and 6 colts. But, additionally, she provided us with much pleasure and enjoyment. She will be missed."

FV Stoic
FV Stoic #314726 (Farlane x Muferra)
Nehalems Muhuli #254200 (Muhuli x Rafaanna)
NEHALEMS MUHULI
March 17, 1982 - April 7, 2000
Owned by Van Gilder Arabians

Email received from Dee Van Gilder: "We had to put Nehalems Muhuli to sleep today. He broke his leg. It was a break in the hind leg, into and above the hock." It is a tragedy that Van Gilder Arabians has lost both of their fine Arabian stallions in only a matter of one month.

FV STOIC
1984 - 2000
Owned by Van Gilder Arabians
by
Carol Woodbridge Mulder

Van Gilder Arabians, Wasco, Oregon, lost their fine stallion FV Stoic on February 5, 2000. He was 16 years old. The cause of death was a brain tumor the size of a tangerine in the right side of his brain.
Chestnut FV Stoic was foaled may 25, 1984. he was bred by Dr. David Ward, then of Aldergrove, British Columbia, Canada. His sire was Farlane 12081, by Abu Farwa 1960 (Rabiyas 1236 x *Rissletta 1201), out of Alleyana 2612 (Alla Amarward 1140 x Rifeyna 1434). Stoic's dam was Muferra 63488, by Muhuli 11717 (Abu Farwa 1859 x Follyanna 5193), out of Ferlina 26504 (Buddi 2711 x Ferlita 10025).
Marjorie Van Gilder began breeding Arabians in 1948. She is one of the longest-term breeders in North America. Today she has some of the most outstanding and most successful Crabbet/American Arabians in the country. For many years Muhuli, one of the best and most renowned of the Abu Farwa sons, was chief sire at Van Gilder Arabians. Marjorie breed Muferra, dam of Stoic: this good producing mare was also dam of Aulani Farwa (by Aurab). Marjorie acquired half interest in Stoic as a yearling, with Dr. David Ward, and he spent his life at Marjories ranch. Many people considered FV Stoic one of the best sons of Farlane, his sire who was held by some to be one of the most beautiful Arabians stallions ever.
Stoic, himself, was a very handsome horse with a strong Abu Farwa look: of course he out to have had, since he was both a grandson and great grandson of Abu Farwa.
Unlike some of the other Van Gilder stallions over the years, Stoic was never put on the race track where Van Gilder Arabians have been notably successful. Instead, during 1987-88, when he was 3 and 4 years old, he was shown limitedly under both English and Western tack. At these open and small all-Arabian shows, Stoic did well. It was then decided to put him in endurance, but soon after starting he injured his back in a fall. The endurance plans had to be put aside.
During his life FV Stoic sired 15 purebred Arabian foals, with 3 more expected this year, in 2000. He also sired 3 partbreds.
The death of this fine stallion is a true loss to the Arabian breed.

INDIAN SILVER+

Merrie Ann Boone of Silver Dream Arabians writes: (merriesheik@paonline.com)
Also just to let you know Dick Stoneback lost Indian Silver + ( *Silver Vanity x *Taheki ) this month (around the 10th April, 2000, I believe). He had colicked earlier in the week and seemed to be improving when his heart gave out. He was 28 years old.
