July 28, 2001 visit to Corfe Castle in Dorset.
Corfe Castle large view
gc at Corfe
Above left is the remains of Corfe Castle which was first begun about 1106 and later added to by successive kings. It was to become the largest and most beautiful medieval castle in Dorset. It was largely destroyed during the Civil War in 1643-1646.

Today was a very hot day, about 90 degrees. Top left is the view upon entering the entrance gate. Above right is the view from the village of Corfe below the castle. Below left is just prior to entering the gates to the castle. Below right is my cousin Lucy inside the castle remains.

This is the view from the castle to the village of Corfe below and the surrounding Dorset countryside.

Myself left on the steps within the castle ruins.

On the right Lucy took this photo of me inside a window archway.

It costs £4.20 to visit the castle (about $6.30) and the village below has many small gift shops, a pub, b&b and tea shops.

Below are photos from my visit to the coast, the city of
Bournemouth in Dorset late July, 2001.

Above left: There is a large garden park area in the center of Bournemouth and this photo and the one below it were taken in the park setting. The photo above right, and below right are from the beach. Bournemouth has sandy beaches, whereas Brighton I am told has a pebbly beach. There is also a pier at Bournemouth behind me in the lower photo. I had to take my sandals off and walk my feet in the sand, a rare thing for me, going barefoot anywhere!
