| Betty writes: "I first became interested in Arabians at the age of 20 in 1946 through Dr. and Mrs. George H. Conn of Freeport who were our friends and next door neighbors. They knew a "horse crazy" young woman when they saw one, and would take me with them when they had their Arabians at Cedarville, Illinois.
I have done research for myself ever since then. One day in 1990 I started tacing foals of a Mare of the Conn's, had reached as far as I could go through Stud Book 1972. Of course I wanted more, but could not find any newer stud books, THEN I called the Arabian Horse Trust to see if they knew where I could find books starting with 1973, low and behold they had what I needed. In the course of our conversation Judy Young said I should be working with the Trust, I thought she was just carrying on a conversation, but I was wrong, as three days later she called saying "her superiors wanted to know if I would be interested in working with The Trust, that did it, and have been doing work for the public since then. I really did not think anything would happen even then, but one day came my first customer from Canada. I don't know who was the most excited, my husband or myself. I still get a thrill with every new customer, and have to stop whatever I am doing to see who what or where the horse comes from, if I ever lose this thrill, then I will retire. I have scrapbooks of photos that I took, magazine by the hundreds where I obtain photos, and information, Stud books from Volume 5 until discontinued, and now I use the Datasource from the Arabian Horse Registry. With my pedigree work I supply biographies, and pictures that I may have. I only charge for Pedigree work, not for the BIOS or pictures, only my time in finding them if ordered separately." |
