Mosel river in Germany
1921 Silver Ghost
Myself with the 1977 Silver Shadow II Rolls Royce (no, it's not mine!) above the Mosel River in Germany in September. This was the car I shared driving and navigating. On right is a 1921 Silver Ghost belonging to Mr. D. Smith. I am going to have to start another page for this story which will be page number 7.

October 22, 2004 Writing articles and formatting printers.
I'm composing a few articles, visiting relations, and planning future work. I haven't posted the article on the Rolls Royce rally because I have to wait till the first one comes out in print. Don't want to infringe on their rights. Meanwhile I have been designing a few ads and working on book sales for the 20th Anniversary issue. I also have been trying to organize my UK office to accomodate the change in my work schedule. GREAT NEWS! I will be back in the states for Thanksgiving! Look for our ad in the Dec-Jan Arabian Horse magazine (put out by the Registry).
October 1, 2004 Writing freelance articles takes me abroad
I have just returned from a Rolls Royce rally. I was invited to write about the experience for several publications. I am just finishing one adaptation of the article and when I conclude it, I will post on line for you to read. I spent 2 weeks driving with the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club of South Eastern (England) to the German Mosel river region and back across the channel to England. My host Mr. Campbell-Lambert, owns the car pictured above. He allowed me to drive his car on a trip of a lifetime. There were 47 people and 20 cars on this rally, some were Bentleys, and the ages of the cars ranged from a 1921 Silver Ghost to a 1998 Rolls Royce Olympian Spur.
August 11, 2004 Busy with sales and events to come
After my successful Malvern Show I returned to complete sales orders arriving in the mail. There were many of my friends at the British National Show, some I had not seen in 2 years. I sold out of the remaining tote bags and t-shirts I had from the 2002 convention. I was only there for the one day and must say thank you to Madeleine Sutherland for her generosity on the Saturday. If ever you wish to purchase tack or books, I recommend buying from her Arabian Emporium business. Not a nicer person could be found. My new part time job working in a real estate office is most enlightening and enjoyable. I am learning a new line of work and how different real estate is in the U.K. versus in America. At least I will be knowledgeable when it comes to purchasing property when the right place comes along. This is my first official hire in England - it is quite interesting. I have finished my tribute to Sammy however I haven't had a chance to add more photos to it but I think I should just post it anyway. Read it here.
July 17, 2004 Nearly completed with a tribute to my stallion. It's been hard to work on it...
I'm starting a new part time job today so I hope to be able to update this by end of weekend. I have written my tribute to my stallion Sammy and will post online too. Guy has been visiting me here in England for the first two weeks of July so we have been together enjoying each other's company.
April 14, 2004 Looking forward to slower days
I've not had time to write for this page and I do want to tell you what I've been up to. Mainly it has been heavy production for the 20th Anniversary issue which has now swelled to 192 pages. Also I have been more in touch with my parents and family in Los Angeles as my parents have had their house for sale and during the last month, buyers have been coming and going, and lots of packing and decisions had to be made on what to keep, what to toss and who of us kids wanted what. My parents have lived in the house for 30 years and it will be hard for them to leave and for us children to see the home sold. However, it has now been sold and my folks are moving to a new home in Florida. This is good news for my sister Tina who lives there with her family as my folks will be just down the road from them, but sad news for the other 4 of their children who live on the west coast, 3 in the Los Angeles area, myself, my home in WA State. My parents have had an exhausting time with all the preparations and still when their belongings get moved across country, they will have the task of unpacking. Thankfully they have help from their children, although I have not been able to do much from abroad. Yet they as well as my siblings, need input from myself and I, of course, wish to be included in the happenings. So therefore some of my time has been on them. Once they get settled, I would like to visit them. The flight from England would indeed by shorter to Florida than to Los Angeles. Meanwhile my husband Guy has had a wonderful surprise with my stepsons driving from California to visit him in WA State for their Easter week break. I dearly wished I could have been there to share the visit, but I am back in the UK working on the magazine. I do hope that one or both of my stepsons manage to come visit me here, and with that, Guy and I are considering and planning for the youngest son to come here after May when his college classes have let out. This will give me something to look forward to and plan for.
February 24, 2004 When will things go as planned?
My goodness what is the deal? I have had so much at is theuble lately, it's not funny. My new laptop that I ordered online, took longer to arrive than promised, it took 1.5 weeks. Then because is it so new, I had to try and understand its workings, so that I could install my programs on it. But the computer kept freezing up on me, I could'nt figure why. Finally I got on the phone to Apple, and the techs walked me through reinstalling the system, oh yeah, that means wiping clean all I had put on it! But the clean install froze and that confounded the tech. He said take it to an Apple authorized service center. Had to drive it to Portland and after 2 days, they discovered it was a bad ram chip. That removed, I got it back, but they did not reinstall the system files I needed, so I was left to do that, plus put all the programs and files back on it AGAIN. This wasted time and extreme frustration means I couldn't get what I had scheduled to complete. My days have been spent nursing my stallion back to better health, and yes, he is improving well. He's gained weight, vitality and his 'mojo!' I am pleased. Then I am concentrating between my old standby computer and the new one that for the first week of it's life with me, I have viewed it like Charlotte looked at Elizabeth Taylor (her dog) in Sex in the City when E.T. landed pregnant (i.e. very disapprovingly). Okay, you had to see the show to know the look I gave to this new computer. Now I think though since the ram has been 'exorcised' the new laptop is becoming my friend. It has a long way to go for me to get all the files back and I'm having to burn CD's of everything so I have 2 copies, one for taking to UK, one for my file cabinet here in the US office. I now have to deal with getting my money back and returning the bad ram (bad ram, bad ram!!) I've also been chasing up my customers who have still to get ad copy to me. I can't be too harsh, I'm just as late as they are! Next I am to visit my parents in Los Angeles to celebrate my father's birthday (Feb. 27) and then rush back to the U.K. where I will complete this colossal issue. It will be a first time HARD COVER edition so please order in advance. I am printing a limited amount. It will be 176 pages or more, color within, and reprint of Collectors Vol. 1 articles and new articles. P.S. if there are no updates or email answers for awhile, don't be alarmed, I am either deep into production, or had another painful unexpected fiasco!
February 2, 2004 My January was the most disastrous month
Accidents and illness cause extreme stress and change of plans. On January 3, an electrical short caused my computer and hardware peripherals to be extremely damaged (computer, external hard drive, printers, Palm Pilot, all which were connected to one another). I therefore could not do any computer work, in fact, I had hoped that my computer could be repaired. The service shop in England said I needed a new motherboard, the cost of which is half the price of a new computer. Their recommendation was to buy a new computer. Without a computer, I could not read or answer emails, my work already on the machine could not be completed, and to buy a new (or used) computer required research done on a computer! So I had to spend time going to the library daily to research buying another machine. I can't tell you how difficult all this was for me, and I cannot complete the magazine in production without a machine! That's why there was such a long gap of no updates on our website. To add insult to injury, my stallion CR Silver Monarch colicked January 20 requiring colic surgery at OSU on January 22nd. I'm sure everyone knows the costs of surgery and the statistics regarding recovery. Put that stress on top of what I was already dealing with, and that I was so far away (in England), you can imagine how bad I was feeling. Then add to this that 4 days after his surgery, another colic bout necessitated a second surgery, which my husband Guy made the call for the go-ahead, and the 'stress' ball kept rolling down the hill, gaining momentum. I have therefore requested a leave to return to the U.S. to see my horse through this (your prayers are welcomed as he is not out of the woods) and try to get another computer and complete work that is incomplete. The most difficult part of all this is not being able to communicate with all my readers and advertisers. I sincerely apologize for the delay. I am so totally stressed and exhausted, and worried about this turn of events, it is nearly impossible to concentrate on my work. I am still unable to download some files until I get a new computer purchased. I am using my 5 year old U.S. computer system. Thank goodness I have that. This is where the phrase, "Beam me up Scottie" says it all!
January 2, 2004 A New Year with many changes ahead
Guy is visiting me here in England We have nearly 3 weeks together whereby we have already visited some of my relatives, and will also leave for a week's holiday abroad. Meanwhile, I have had a very interesting classified ad come through for the website on several high percentage Crabbet horses for sale, at least one is Pure Crabbet, a 14 yr old mare. I will have that online shortly, waiting for payment in the mail, which at this time of year has been very slow. I just got a Christmas card from the U.S. dated Dec. 22 today Jan. 2.
December 17, 2003 Anyone know about shipping dogs to UK from US?
Possibility of sending my dog to UK. If any of my readers know of the procedures, or have any experience with shipping a dog to the UK, could you give me some advice? Or if you have some time to surf the web, which I don't right now, I'd welcome your findings. I am interested to send my dog Kona to me from the US. Guy can't bring her on his visit this time as he too has been too busy to research the how-to's. Thanks for your help.
November 28, Turkey Day not the same when you're abroad
Hope my American friends enjoyed their Thanksgiving day. I nearly went back to the U.S. to celebrate with my family, but it was just not possible. There is nothing to indicate it's Thanksgiving here in the U.K. In fact, it's very difficult to find turkey in the markets here. Turkeys are for the Christmas meal, even though I managed to find a turkey breast at the price of £25 which is $42 for just the breast! Outrageous! Sadly, I had no turkey but I did give thanks for all the good in my life and for my wonderful family and husband. CTS Last week I bumped into Rosemary Archer in the Waitrose market here in Andover. Rosemary lives on the northeast side of Andover town. She was surprised to know I was still in England. I informed her of the 20th Anniversary issue coming out soon and asked her if she would like to contribute an article for it. She seemed unsure of what she could write. I suggested something about how Crabbets are doing, or their status, or future. She didn't seem very encouraging. I don't think she will be writing, however, I did try... One more thing, Guy will be coming here for Christmas and New Year's holiday. We had planned to go to Australia but Guy has been so busy and stressed, he wants to spend his time off quietly, and without traveling from one place to another. I am sorry to not be coming to Australia in January. I think the
November 17, 2003 Silvermo email address STOPS from November 18. Please use gcheer@crabbet.com email address
Fixing email addresses taking up time. Please use the above address as I my current US provider (silvermo@internetcds.com) has been bought by Earthlink and I am trying to get emails sent directly to me here in the UK. For some reason my georgia@crabbet.com address box is full even though I believe those emails were reaching me to silvermo, I was informed the messages were bounced back saying it is full. Actually upon further iinvestigation, there are 1800 messages there! Some are duplicates, some are not, most are junk but it is very time consuming to go through them because of how slow the dial-up connection is on the website. I apologize, but I can't answer everyone to confirm I got your ad. So I have set up a new box (gcheer@crabbet.com), which does work, so please write to gcheer@crabbet.com from now on. Emailing is not foolproof. It seems to require far more time on my end then the old fashioned way of just getting an envelope with your instructions, photos, and check. DO put something like 'Crabbet' or 'horse info' in the subject line. If you say anything vague in the subject line, I will delete before opening. I especially delete emails with just 'hi' in the subject line. PLEASE be specific and use the subject line in your emails. Thank you very much!
November 8, 2003 Send ad copy to me in the UK please.
My great-uncle passed away last week. Sidney Brown was 100 years old, a dentist by profession, and an authority on entemology having at one time an extensive insect collection. He was the older brother to my grandmother Cerita Brown. She passed away in 1974. My parents are planning to sell their home and move to Florida. So you can see I have many matters on my mind.
As each week passes I wonder how I manage to accomplish what I can as I have many unexpected important details taking my time. My husband Guy has not been feeling well lately being very overworked in his stressful job as a senior manager at Harland Financial services. I am trying hard to remove as much of my Crabbet Influence work from his hands, so I would appreciate it if you could contact me directly via email, and for ads coming in the mail, the more that can be sent to me in the UK, the better. Obviously US checks must go to my US office, as well as credit card details, but ad copy could be sent separate direct to me here in the UK. I will have my fax machine on from 5pm-2am east coast time. Your extra attention to these details are very much appreciated by both Guy and myself.
My stallion CR Silver Monarch will be residing near Coos Bay, Oregon where he will be spending time at my brother-in-law's 30 acre farm. I am also tutoring retired people on the Apple Computer as well as other part time work requirements that cover for my rent while here. If there is any way you can tell other people about the upcoming magazine in case they wish to advertise, please do so. I can often accomodate late ads. Thank you!
October 26, 2003 Some good things have to end
On Friday the Concorde made it's last flight from New York to London, Heathrow. The news coverage showed that the decision to 'retire' the Concorde was based on commercial reasons. These mainly being that the cost to keep it flying was more than the income brought in. Also the market for commercial travel has changed whereby passengers want cheap flights, not necessarily fast flights. This historic event got me to thinking that in businesses one has to consider the viability of continuing a popular, well received enterprise when the costs to run it outweigh the income it brings in. This is where I have been in the last few years with the Crabbet Influence magazine. I know there is a strong, loyal and widespread worldwide readership who write me asking for this publication to come out more frequently. Those comments I appreciate! However, the ever increasing costs of production (primarily the cost in postage, paper and printing) make producing a magazine of the quality I wish to be associated with, very difficult. That is the main reason why I have decreased paper printing in favor of the internet, as costs were less. But the time it takes to run any business still incurs costs, and I find that my time is greatly reduced these days. On top of that I now have physical limitations including the tendonitis factor in my right arm, and demanding 'other' issues in my life. Some of these other issues involve my family, other work I now do involves tutoring retired people on the use of the computer. This new 'work' is equally rewarding to my soul as what I have done for the last 20 years with my Crabbet magazine, and also rewarding for the people I teach here in England. I have always enjoyed helping people, teaching and educating, and giving of myself mostly with little compensation. But that is what teachers experience all over the world. Both of my grandfathers were teachers. One taught medicine, the other taught history. Teachers give back. I wish I could afford to hire people to run my Crabbet magazine. I wish to see the Crabbet Influence magazine come out more often, and I wish for my website to have more frequent updates and offer more services. As my Crabbet readers, what suggestions do you have? Do you have time or experience on website building to work on this site? Do you think I should sell the business? Or should I carry on as best as I can (and would anyway!)
October 15, 2003 Again, much to do, many busy hours
Medical reports cause some concern but all has been cleared and my health has received an A-OK. Had to go to a hospital here in England for an ultrasound after my U.S. doctor informed me of a further test required. That was a bit concerning, and time consuming trying to navigate through the U.K. doctor system and get myself seen. Nowadays I am trying to send and answer many emails about the next magazine. I have had positive response from the writers involved and now have seven well known writers scheduled to provide articles for the next issue! The other new item is that I am installing broadband this week so I will have a bit of 'tech' installation work to preform. With luck, I should be getting fast downloads by next Monday just in time for all those photos you send with your ad copy. Let's hope it works, and saves time!
dad at Ming tomb walkway Pudong, Shanghai Airport
September 22. Photos from China. Left, my father next to two of the Ming horses on the walkway at the Doling Ming Tombs in Nanjing. This walkway is lined with many animals made over 600 years ago. There were elephants, camels, tortoises and madeup creatures. The photo on the right was taken inside the very modern Pudong, Shanghai International Airport, September 19, 2003.
September 21, 2003 From England, to U.S.A. to China and all back again
I have just returned from China. My father had to go there to settle family matters that have taken 30 years or more of struggle. I believe much of his health strains this past year were caused from this situation. I was the only family member who was available to travel with him on this long journey. My primary function was to make sure he took his medication and protect him from harm. We spent just over a week between Nanjing and Shanghai. We also spent a few days with relations.
The trip was tiring for me, due to heat, humidity, and unfavorable surroundings. Without my father's ability to speak Chinese, I don't think I would have attempted to travel along.
Nonetheless, our trip was successful in the matters required. Therefore a long chapter has now closed and the issues that have taken my time and concentration most of this year on his behalf have now been resolved.
I now plan to get back to where I left off and produce the next issue of The Crabbet Influence magazine. This 20th Anniversary issue is now expected out in December of this year. I will update the details by Sept. 27. Please email me if you wish to advertise so I can hold your space. I am planning a special issue with favorite past articles as well as new.
August 25, 2003 Family issues take my time and the Sobig virus and my return to the U.S.A.
The last few weeks have been crazy! Please note that lately I have not had time to answer all my emails. This just is not possible, and I am sorry. Let me explain some of what has been happening. I have had much concern over my stallion's recent health, although he seems to be fine now that he has returned to my home in Washington state. Maybe the stress of all his travels from Canada to Oregon upset his system but the vet's test results and exam prove all normal. This makes me very happy. I've also had work related business that has taken up my time but delayed because at the same time my computer crashed. I have had to rebuild my hard drive which I still have not had the time to complete. Now with the SoBig virus attacking, my email inbox has about 50 emails every 8 hrs which I must clear out before I download the non-virus emails. I am also absorbed with making plans for my return to the US, which is approaching fast, I will be traveling home in 3 days, August 28. Also my father's health and his family matter will take him to China soon and I am to go with him to make sure he takes his medication and gets done what needs to be done there. So to London twice last week to get my Visa from the Chinese Embassy. These plans are very important and time consuming. Did I mention that my mother has come to visit me here in England and is here now and I have to concentrate on her? As for future publications, I want very much to have a 20th Anniversary issue. When I get home, I can better assess my situation and plans with Guy's input. Then I will make an announcement on this website. If you are reading this, it would be helpful to know what you wish to read for articles in the next issue, or if you would want to be an advertiser. Meanwhile, when I get home I will be going to the doctor for my own health issues, one hopes there are no ulcers to be found but I certainly note that I have had enough stress to warrant one. Sorry also if this sounds like a me-me session, but now you know I am alive and trying to keep my head about water!
July 4, 2003 Happy Fourth of July and my care package ARRIVED TODAY!
Yippee I got my care package with my fritos and Trader joe thai noodles inside! That was fast - mailed Tuesday arrived to me Friday! Thank you Guy you are such a wonderful husband. I miss you! Everyone enjoy your holiday and I will be celebrating too, safely of course!
July 3, 2003 Happy Fourth of July and my care package is on it's way
At the start of the 4th of July weekend I want to wish all of you a safe and happy holiday period. I will be thinking of all my American family and friends enjoying themselves hopefully with nice warm weather for barbeques and family get togethers. I'm going to try and watch some of the US celebrations on my satellite television but not really doing anything special Friday. •• This morning I managed to drop my jar of body moisturizing cream which made a big mess of splashes of white cream on my carpet made of woven straw, I believe called sisel (not sure of the spelling). •• The dollar has not been doing well against the pound or euro which is not good for me living here. My money buys me less, and because of the weak dollar, I have not drawn any money since Guy was here in April. I've managed on my tutor earnings and my weekly mushroom delivery run and what I had set aside but I pray the dollar will strengthen rather soon •• I have still been concentrating quietly on family matters and in correspondence with my sister in Florida. •• Better news: I'm waiting now on a care package from Guy consisting of some of my favorite U.S. items that I can't get here. I expect you will find these things rather funny, but I do miss Frito corn chips. They have Doritos corn torilla chips here but they are not flavored like Fritos. I also like Cheez-it crackers. Can you believe a country so in love with cheese, does not have a decent cheese cracker? I guess because here they put real cheese on top of plain-ish crackers. Why bother with cheese flavored crackers? I also like beef jerky, a VERY American food, and not sold here. Thank goodness for our cowboy heritage.... I miss Reese's peanut butter cups and Butterfinger bars. These peanut butter items are also not available here, I guess America is a peanut butter nation. Just coming over now are Old Paso Mexican food items, like salsa, and 'kits' to make fajitas, burritos, and enchiladas. I bought one kit on sale for fajitas. It consists of 8 flour tortillas, a salsa package and a spice package. You have to buy the chicken, onion and peppers. Hmmm, wonder if they are any success to this market in GB. People here tend to not eat much spicy food, unless they go out to get a curry. I think many people here prefer the old staples of steak and kidney pies, fish and chips and sausages and mash. I do miss the spicy and ethnic foods I'm used to in America. However, you can see from my list above that I am rather too American, enjoying junk food and I'm far from being a teenager. Just so you know, I don't eat much of these things, especially since I can't get them here!
June 21, 2003 Emails and my preferences
The fact is I do not have the time to answer all the emails I receive. Crabbet.com is a world wide website with ever increasing traffic which means I have to sort through lots of unwanted mail. Many are junk emails that must be cleared out of my inbox, which requires a lot of time. Please don't think I'm not interested in what you have to say, I am. I just can't always answer promptly. From you, my readers and Crabbet enthusiasts, I kindly ask you to please send me brief, uncomplicated emails. I don't wish to have forwarded emails with jokes, or campaigns or issues, as I have no time to read them and those emails take time away from the really important ones that I can attend to. If you could also remove embedded graphics (smiley faces, horse cartoons, etc) that would make me very happy. And most of all, please understand that with tendonitis in my right arm, I regrettably MUST limit the amount of typing I do.
June 8, 2003 What's happened from March to June
I've skipped writing during the month of April mainly because Guy was here. He was here March 30 to April 16 and did we get around! We drove into Cornwall, visited the lovely town of St. Mawes, the former art colony of St. Ives, and drove to Lands End, mainly so that we could say we'd been there. Lands End is rather bleak and disappointing, with a large tourist complex consisting of a hotel, a few gift shops, amusement galleries for children and little else. There are pony trekking stables nearby though if you wish to ride along the cliff paths. We also drove up to the north, to Lincolnshire and spent a nice weekend in London. Sorry to some of my English friends that we didn't manage the time to stop for a visit although we did try to. Guy had been put on new medication just before he came over which resulted in him not always feeling the best during parts of the day all the while he was here.

Whenever I start a new page of Cheer e-thoughts, I have to update all the links to the other ones. I bit of a bore.
May seemed to fly by. My good friend here managed to break her wrist so I spent some time helping her. I also dog sat her dog for 5 days so she could go on a needed vacation with her daughter. Then mid-May I traveled to the French riviera with my friend Andrew. We planned this trip back in December when flights were cheap and no war talk. Andrew's mother had a flat in the Provence region so he was my guide. We canoed, shopped, and visited sights, including Monaco, just a few days before the famed Monaco Grand Prix took place. For photos of this, click here. I also have started taking French language. Our 'French for the Rusty' group consists of about 6 students meeting every other Monday morning for 2 hours. I took Spanish in high school so this language is very 'foreign' to me, however, I feel it will be more practical now that I am only miles away from France itself. Speaking of learning, my other activities include teaching senior citizens on the Apple Mac computer, a weekly delivery job of 100-225 crates of mushrooms, house cleaning/sitting, as well as trying to keep up with my emails and other computer work. Because of my tendonitis, I find I cannot type as much as before without experiencing pain so I try to keep that in control. I am now using a TENS machine for therapy on my arm. Let's hope it helps.
My family has had a very busy time with various members health issues or other problems requiring close attention. My concentration and time have therefore been distracted accordingly. I have decided to put on hold all my printed projects until later this summer.
