SIR LAN SHOWS AT AGE 33 at the Comstock Arabian Spring Horse Show held in Carson City, Nevada, May 7, 8 & 9, 2004. Sir Lan #74240 (3/29/1971) set hooves for the first time in an Arabian Horse Show. He had enduranced and was shown in small local shows in California when younger. At the show on Friday, he was in Sport Horse in Hand, Geldings 3 years and older, and Sport Horse in Hand, Geldings 2 years and older AOTH. He took third both times in a class of four. On Saturday he was in Halter, Arabian Geldings in Hand 4 yrs and older, and Arabian Geldings in Hand 4 yrs and older AOTH. He took fifth both times and in the latter class there was six showing. On Sunday he went into the Walk/Trot/Jog Equitation Class 10 and Under, with a little girl who had ridden him only once before. He placed 5th out of five and did everything right. Not bad for a first time out. His sire is Sir Lancer ++ and his dam is RE Lolyfa (Snokar). I've had him two years, and he is the horse I have had the most fun with in all of my ownership years (50 yrs!).
I rescued him in December of 2002, found him tied to a fence post with a rope around his neck. When I walked up to him, he was looking at me and the halter as if to say "You're going to take me away to a better place." I did, and he has rewarded me with some awesome moments. This past February I lost my mother, and my cousin flew out from Toronto to be with me. I took her out to show her Sir Lan and he put on a marvelous show for her, which included running free in the arena and charging the gate, stopping, then blowing in our faces, a typical "Arabian dream", nostrils extended. She still talks of the picture today and remembers vividly the scene.
According to Sandy Warren (Warren Park Stud), he is a "true treasure", not just for him, but for the celebrated closeness of foundation horses in his pedigree. He's a grandson of the "Golden Cross" of Ga'Zi and Feyn on his sire's side. On his dam's side he has Antez and El Kumait for great-great grandsires through Snokar, and Farlowa and Coulyfa for great-grandparents. With Farlowa being by Abu Farwa, and Ga'Zi also being by Ab, he has two crosses. Coulyfa, has an awesome pedigree, being by Courier and out of Malyfa by Alyf. Farana, and Antez also show in his fifth generation.
His pedigree is awesome and to have all these horses so close up is wonderful. I just wish he were younger, but he sparkles, and in the Sport Horse class, the judge commented on his head and neck as "Expression adorable, and "great trot".

Updated April 22, 04. November 7, 2003 The Queensland Crabbet Arabian Group Inc announces the next World Crabbet Convention will be held on November 12-16, 2005 at Toowoomba in South East Queensland.
Following on from the success of the Convention held in Victoria in 2000 and last year in the United Kingdom, attended by several hundred breeders and owners from England, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, France, Germany, South Africa, USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, our members would like to keep the momentum going and invite you all to join us.
There is a renewed interest in Arabians of Crabbet Lineage and in the Crabbet Stud itself as more people realize the immense impact that Arabians from that stud continue to have in almost all breeding programs around the world that are producing today&Mac226;s champions in halter, performance and endurance and wish to become part of ensuring the future of these lines.
The Convention will present a one day show to showcase Australian Arabians doing what they do so well, a parade of 100% Crabbet and Crabbet related Arabians and a one day seminar with guest speakers from around the world. It is planned to organize stud tours throughout the country to enable visitors to see first hand the Crabbet lines so well preserved and used here in Australia.
This is an exciting opportunity for breeders in Australia to present our horses to the rest of the world. We have the greatest collection of close up Crabbet lines of any country in the world today and breeders in other countries are keen to source that genetic pool.
Mark your calendars and work out what you as an Aussie breeder can do to help ensure the success of this World event. Contact for further information Janice O'Connor (61) 07 5465 8445, Fax (61) 07 5465 8552 or email comanchelodge@bigpond.com

Our official launch and first function of our South African Preservation Movement will be 24, 25, 26 October at the Parys Showgrounds. ALL are invited!!! Besides the showing of horses we will also host a number of smaller talks and on other matters of interest (The Arabian Horse in South Africa, and early History). It promises to be a wonderful day - not something to miss. We will also publish a booklet with relevant facts etc in it. My request is to enquire whether any of your website readers could assist me in obtaining any promotional material on the Crabbet and the CMK horses Promotional material such as: brochures, leaflets, videos, sales lists etc.
The format will be something of a mix of the Crabbet Convention (UK) the CAT futurity show as well as the ECAHS events (stallion service auctions etc). If you wish to learn more, or contribute Crabbet related material, please write to A. Jacobs at info@crabbet.com

Silver Sultan is a stunning colt who has an exciting future ahead of him. He is a *Silver Vanity grandson and he has a proven world class pedigree. He has 8 lines to Rissalix and nearly the same number to Silver Fire. Some of the great horses that appear fairly close in his pedigree include *Silver Vanity, *Serafix, Indian Magic, *Touch of Magic, Count Dorsaz, Bright Shadow, Oran, Silver Ripple, and Silver Flame. He is also 99.79 % ECAHS certified. Silver Sultan's dam is the beautiful *Silver Vanity daughter PR Silver Dream. Dream has produced 4 breeding stallions and now this stallion caliber colt. She is 5 for 5. Silver Sultan's maternal half brother , SDA Silver Legend, was purchased by Bazy Tankersley of Al-Marah Arabians. Silver Legend has just started his exciting breeding career at Al-Marah.
Melanie plans to use SDA Silver Sultan in her breeding program. Melanie's broodmare band includes daughters from AM Sea Captain, Dreamazon, and AM Double Dream. Her one Sea Captain daughter AM Buckineers Lass is the 1998 National Open Cutting Horse Champion. One of her stallions is AM Ghost Ship ( AM Sea Captain ++ x Al-Marah Stopsign) who has his permanent breeding license issued by the American Warmblood Registry. Margaret Greely and I collaborated for 30 years breeding and showing Arabians. Sadly, Margaret died in 2000 aged 103. I must sell our 4 mares as I cannot afford the time or physical effort to keep them. Our mares' heritages can be traced to the Blunts' originals and their pedigrees read like a roll call of great Arabians.

Breyer® Introduces New Arabian model
Breyer has introduced a new Arabian to its "Horses in History" series--Napoleon's Marengo. Each of the models in this series comes with a video or brochure that explains their special place in history.
A striking gray that served as Napoleon's mount through several important battles, Marengo was captured after the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon's bitter and final defeat in Belgium in 1815. Marengo was taken to England, where until his death in 1832, he was a sensational exhibit known as "Bonaparte's Charger." His skeletal remains are on exhibit in London at the National Army Museum.
Marengo was cast from the same mold as Huckleberry Bey++, and carries himself in the same proud, upright trot that exemplifies the spirit, beauty and athleticism of the Arabian breed.
For more information on Marengo or other Breyer models, contact Breyer Animal Creations, 14 Industrial Road, Pequannock, NJ 07440; (973) 633-5090 or 1-800-444-4775 (orders only); www.BreyerHorses.com.
February 25, 2003 AHA Broadcast E-News
Merger Update
The official merger date has been amended to April 1, 2003; however, AHA has been working under a joint operating agreement since January 1, 2003, which has provided IAHA and AHRA members with many merger benefits. The April 1 date was selected to avoid dealing with a short accounting period from January 1 through March 31 since the AHA fiscal year begins on April 1.
The Westminster office will be closed on March 7 for packing. All departments should be up and running on Monday, March 10, in the same location at 10805 East Bethany Drive, Aurora, CO 80014. After that date, all calls should go to 303-696-4500; however, if a member dials the main Registry number after March 10, it will be forwarded to the new location.
All membership categories will soon have access to the current IAHA and AHRA Members Only sections of the website. Programming is underway to allow the AHA computer system to recognize all member and pin numbers and allow cross usage. Members will be alerted by broadcast e-mail immediately when this is available.
The Arabian Horse DataSource is available to anyone, even non-members, as long as the appropriate subscription fee is paid. Subscriptions are available for $9.95 for a day, $24.95 for a month and $94.95 for a year. There is a $9.95 discount for AHA members for first time subscribers. Ultimately, performance records will be available on DataSource as well as Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian registration records.
The official address for AHA is 10805 East Bethany Drive, Aurora, CO 80014. People who register or transfer purebred Arabian horses should continue to send these to AHA, P.O. Box 173886, Denver, CO 80217-3886 until the staffs are merged. Mail received after March 10 at that location will be forwarded to the new AHA office.
The Registration Commission which represents the interests of purebred Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses will be meeting soon to evaluate fees and procedures for both registries. If any person desires to join AHA as an Associate member for $20 he or she may sign up online at https://www.theregistry.org/Forms/MembershipApplicationForm.asp.
Handbook Online
Critical parts of the AHA Handbook are available online. These chapters include competition rules for AHA-recognized competition, regional and national shows, qualifications and endurance and competitive trail rides as well as rules for International Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes and National Halter and Performance Futurities. Other portions of the Handbook will be available such as bylaws, registration, awards, etc. when that information, which is changing due to the merger, has been solidified.
A Call to the Membership from the Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is extending an invitation to the entire membership to become involved in the process of presenting to AHA a slate of nominees for the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee performs a pivotal role in providing leadership and direction to AHA. The success of AHA relies, in large part, on the quality of its leaders. Each year the Member Organizations elect delegates to represent their interests on a Regional level and at the AHA Convention. Your elected delegates ultimately make the choice as to the individuals chosen to act as our officers for the coming year. It is the charge of the Nominating Committee to present a slate of officers that best represents the interests, goals and aspirations of the Arabian Horse Association. The members of this slate must be designated by the Nominating Committee no later than June 1, 2003. This slate will then be considered for election at the 2003 Convention in Milwaukee. The positions for which a slate must be created are: Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. (The President's term is for 2 years beginning 2003, and the Second Vice President position was eliminated by Resolution at the 2001 Convention.) Your input as a member of this organization is both solicited and valued. If you have an interest in being considered as a potential officer nominee or know of someone who might be a qualified candidate, contact anyone on the Nominating Committee before April 14, 2003. The addresses and phone numbers of the following Committee members: Joseph Hull, Chair; Diana Bein; Paul Kostial; Cindy Clinton; Van Jacobsen and Bill Pennington, can be found in the 2003 AHA Committee Directory found through the Members Only section of http://www.iaha.com/.
Feb. 12, 2003. Arabian Horse Association Emerges as New Full-Service Breed Organization
The International Arabian Horse Association (IAHA) will merge with the Arabian Horse Registry of America (AHRA) as of April 1, 2003. However, they have been working under a joint operating agreement as the Arabian Horse Association since January 1, 2003.
The benefits of such a merger include:
The merger marries two distinct operations. The AHRA has registered more than 598,000 purebred Arabian horses since its founding in 1908, making it the largest Arabian horse registry in the world. It maintains a comprehensive database that connects the pedigrees of almost one million purebred Arabian horses throughout the world. IAHA was founded in 1950 and has grown to an association that supports 265 affiliate clubs in 18 regions across North America. It registers Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses, administers more than $4 million in annual prize money, produces national events, maintains official event records, recognizes more than 400 Arabian horse shows and distance rides annually and provides activities and programs that promote breeding and ownership.
United as AHA, the organization can provide Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horse owners with all the services expected of a top quality equine breed association. AHA staff and service consolidation will occur in March at the new location, 10805 East Bethany Drive, Aurora, CO 80014, former headquarters of the IAHA. The AHA is a 501(c)(5) organization.
AHA® is a 40,000 member breed association that registers purebred Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses, administers more than $4 million in annual prize money, produces national events, maintains event records, recognizes more than 400 Arabian horse shows and distance rides and provides activities and programs that promote Arabian horse breeding and ownership. For information about Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian horses, call 303-696-4500, e-mail iaha@iaha.com or visit www.ArabianHorses.org.

Oct. 20, 2002 US National Champion Jr. Working Cow Horse VA GAI CALIENTE' (Cavu Paragon x Gai Marionette).
I am pleased to inform everyone of Vanguard Arabians latest development. One of our stallion's (Cavu Paragon) first born colts just took the U.S. National Championship title yesterday in Louisville, KY. We received the news yesterday around 1:30 p.m. We are so happy for VA Gai Caliente's owner, Mr. Ewrin Verden and his trainer, Mr. Matthew Howell. Callie was foaled in the pasture right next to our barn on July 31, 1998. It is hard to believe our small farm produced a national winner. Mr. Ewrin and I both were in tears on the telephone. Callie took the first ever Jr. Working Cow Horse Championship title. My farm and my life will forever be changed. I have so many people to thank for this moment. The Holson's of Cavu Arabians for giving us the opportunity to own such a wonderful horse like Cavu Paragon. The Gray's of Black Diamond Arabians for allowing us to purchase some of the finest Arabian mares in the world and letting us have such a wonderful mare, Gai Marionette now the dam of a National Champion. It has been a true testament to the combination of the wonderful bloodlines of the Ralvon Stud and Gainey Fountain Head Arabians.
We have been truly blessed by these phenomenal horses and their equally great breeders and owners.

Sept. 9, 2002. Count Jozef Potocki The Man Who Bred Skowronek (Sub-titled: The Great Polish Breeder and Arabian Horses of Slawuta - Bialocerkiew Antoniny) is a methodical account that was derived from a compendium of hard-to-find early sources, most of which have never before been translated into English. Written in close collaboration with Prince Pawel Sanguszko, Counts Piotr and Marek Potocki, Countess Anna Branicka and Countess Maria Rey (nee Potocka), the story traces their family's history from the 13th century, right up to the present day. Included within its pages are lengthy extracts from the unpublished autobiography of Count Roman Potocki, the eldest son of Skowronek's breeder.
Together with data from other newly discovered historic documents, each chapter is embellished with scores of rare and never before published illustrations (in all 22 color plates and over 160 black and white photographs) that were derived from the family albums and archives of the story's principle human protagonists.
However, primarily the narrative is about Arabian horses. The text contains an abundance of surprising first-hand information and anecdotes about almost all of the early horses found in the pedigrees of the vast majority of today's Arabian champions. (Price U.S. $44.95)
Steens second narrative In Search of the Arabian Horse is a faithfully executed translation of Captain Luis Azpeitia de Moro's 1905 Spanish Classic 'En Busca del Caballo Arabe'. It is the account of the Cria Caballar's journey and arduous trek on horseback through the Syrian Desert and its exotic seven-month adventure into the world of the Turks, Kurds and Bedouin nomads, searching for quality Arabian breeding stock.
The 'Commission to the Orient' occurred only eleven months before Homer Davenport's famous expedition to Aleppo and the Anaze Feddan tribe. Those familiar with the latter's story will come across many similarities and coincidences in the two journeys. Each shared a profound respect for the desertbred horse and its qualities of endurance, speed, beauty, and resistance. (Price U.S. $24.95)
Both 'The Man Who Bred Skowronek' and 'In Search of the Arabian Horse are hardbound deluxe editions printed on 100 weight paper and bound in leather-like 'gauflex' covers that are richly embossed in gold on both its face and spine with the title and author's name. The first is a standard A-4 size (210 x 290 mm) or (8.5 x 11 inches) of 208 pages and containing approximately 124,000 words of text. The latter is a normal A-5 size (148 x 210 mm) or (6.25 x 8.50 inches) volume of 220 pages with approximately 169,000 words, which encompass eighty black and white photographs, one map and four illustrations. Its text includes a 'Glossary of Spanish, Turkish and Arabic Terms', biographical details about 'The Men of the Commission, a brief summary titled 'The Influence of the 1905 Importation' and is annotated with 32 endnotes by the translator. Both handsome editions are protected with a full color plastic coated jackets that includes their respective bar codes (ISBN 84-607-2369-0 and ISBN 84-607-2460-3)
A Great Birthday or Christmas Gift!
Both books can be obtained from Silver Monarch Publishing. Payments accepted from all major credit cards. Euro and pound sterling checks accepted if made payable to Georgia Cheer.

Pure Crabbet Directory to be Published
If you own a pure Crabbet Arabian (or high percentage Crabbet) we ask you to please send us the following information for FREE inclusion in this printed directory resource. We need a photo copy of the horse's pedigree and official registration form showing breeder, age, color, owner. We need your name and address, phone information. If you have a good color photograph to submit which will be scanned and return, please do so. The intention is to make a booklet directory of all the pure Crabbets left in the world. We know that it will take some time to obtain all the information possible, and the booklet will be published with the thought of addendum pages added when more information becomes available. We ask you to tell anyone else who owns or knows people who own pure Crabbet Arabians to participate in this worldwide project. The directory may also have some advertising, depending on contributions made. Your support is greatly encouraged. It is a FREE listing for those who have PURE or high percentage CRABBETS.
